Hello. Today’s edition of the newsletter will be brief, in light of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It doesn’t feel appropriate to do the usual news round up on a day of mourning, and as we see history created in front of our eyes. As fans of museums, there is perhaps something even more poignant about this era-defining moment.
Some museums and galleries in the UK are closed today as a mark of respect, including the National Gallery and Sir John Soane’s Museum. All royal residencies - including the Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace - are closed, as are all sites of Historic Royal Palaces such as the Tower of London.
Here is just a small selection of some of the messages museums and cultural organisations have issued in response to the Queen’s death.
Thank you, your Majesty. And God save the King.
