the new show will be at London’s Victoria Miro gallery and its title - Grayson Perry: The MOST Specialist Relationship - is a nod to the famous and much-celebrated (and scrutinised) term describing relations between Britain and the United States.
the pieces, which include ceramics, a tapestry and a large-scale print, are a response to an American roadtrip Perry took for a forthcoming three-part documentary for Channel 4: Grayson Perry’s Big American Roadtrip (working title). both the documentary and the exhibition will appear in September.

in the series, the artist travels across the US on a custom-built motorbike he designed especially for the journey, exploring some of the biggest cultural and political fault-lines in the country.
the new works respond to the programme’s themes and conversations as Perry spent time with people from very different walks of life, from farmers in Wisconsin to African-American business people in Atlanta, to understand how Americans today view issues of identity, race, money and class – and what might be done to overcome the divisions in their country (and in our own).
one of the new works is a ceramic vessel called Sacred Beliefs of the Liberal Elite and features phrases such as “hipsters unite against conformity” and “me me me me me me me me” written onto the stripes of the American flag.
the exhibition follows last year’s show at Victoria Miro by Perry: Super Rich Interior Decoration.
Grayson Perry: The MOST Specialist Relationship opens on 15 September at Victoria Miro and is by appointment only
